The RoadEazy RZ1 system is designed to work seamlessly with both light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles using two standard diagnostic connection types: OBD-II and J1939. These cables provide both power and data to the RZ1 Vehicle Hub and are essential for installation and device operation.
OBD-II Cable (Light-Duty Vehicles)
The OBD-II cable is designed for use in light-duty vehicles such as cars, vans, and small trucks. It connects directly to the vehicle’s standard 16-pin OBD-II port, typically located beneath the driver’s dashboard. This cable delivers continuous power to the RZ1 hub and enables real-time data collection from the vehicle’s onboard diagnostics system. With a simple plug-and-play design, the OBD-II cable allows for a quick and clean installation.
Tip
Most light-duty vehicles use OBD-II as their primary diagnostic interface — no additional hardware is needed for installation.
J1939 Cable (Medium & Heavy-Duty Vehicles)
The J1939 cable is used for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles, including commercial trucks, buses, and specialized fleet vehicles that operate on the J1939 protocol. This cable connects to the vehicle’s 9-pin Deutsch diagnostic port, providing both power and access to the vehicle’s CAN bus. The J1939 cable is built for durability and reliability in industrial-grade environments and is essential for accessing telematics data from Class 6–8 trucks and other heavy equipment. It ensures the RZ1 hub can operate effectively in demanding conditions without the need for additional adapters or wiring.
Note
The J1939 cable must be securely seated in the diagnostic port. A loose or incomplete connection can cause power or data interruptions.
