Get a single place to see every asset your business has in motion, from trailers and containers to job site equipment and tools. Asset trackers connect those assets to the platform, delivering location data, usage insights, and condition monitoring without requiring a driver or a powered vehicle.
This section covers every asset tracker available, what each one does, and how to choose the right option for your fleet.
What is an asset tracker?
An asset tracker is a GPS-enabled device that attaches to a non-driven asset, a trailer, a generator, a piece of heavy equipment, a container and reports its location and status back to the platform. Unlike a dash cam or vehicle telematics device, asset trackers work independently of a vehicle cab and are designed to monitor the asset itself, not the driver.
Together, these asset trackers give you a single pane of glass across your entire fleet: where every vehicle is, where every trailer is, and whether cargo conditions are within range, all in one platform.
Choosing the right tracker
Four factors determine which tracker fits your use case:
-
Power source - Does the asset have an available power connection, or does the tracker need to run on its own battery? Wired trackers report more frequently and require no battery management. Battery-powered trackers offer flexibility but have configurable ping rates to balance reporting frequency against battery life.
-
Connectivity - Most trackers use cellular connectivity for outdoor, on-road applications. Assets that move in and out of yards or indoor environments may benefit from Bluetooth-enabled tags that work with a Gateway. Assets in remote areas with limited cellular coverage can use satellite connectivity.
-
Ping rate - How often does the asset need to be located? Frequently moving assets (trailers, containers in transit) typically benefit from motion-triggered, frequent updates. Yard assets or stored equipment may only need a daily check-in.
-
Installation - Permanent bolt-on installations offer the most secure fit for long-term deployments. Magnetic mounts and adhesive options work well for temporary or flexible deployments where the tracker may move between assets.
