A coaching session is how a coach reviews a driver's open events, records what was discussed, and closes the coaching task. This article is the workflow from start to finish.
For what each section and control on the page does, read the article Understanding the Coaching Session Page.
Step 1: Open the Session
- Go to Driver Safety > Due for Coaching.
- Find the driver you want to coach. Use Filter by Coach, Filter by Tag(s), or Search by Name or ID to narrow the queue.
- Click Coach X Events at the bottom of the card.
Step 2: Read the Background
- Check Coaching History (Last 180 Days) to see whether you are looking at a first occurrence or a repeat pattern.
- If Coach Assist is enabled on your account, read the briefing above the event videos, and use Ask Coach Assist for anything it does not cover. Verify anything you intend to repeat to the driver – read the article Understanding Coach Assist.
Step 3: Watch the Events
- Click a thumbnail in the event strip to load that event in the player. Each thumbnail is labelled with its behavior and the time and date.
- Play the clip.* The road-facing view fills the player with the in-cab view as an inset – use the swap control at the bottom left to switch which one is the main pane.
- Check the event details below the player to confirm the trigger, severity, and asset.
- Repeat for each event on the task.
If an event turns out to be recorded incorrectly, click Dismiss this event rather than coaching it – read the article How to Dismiss an Event.
Step 4: Select the Behaviors You Coached
Under Behavior — click to toggle coached, click each behavior you discussed with the driver. A selected chip is filled. At least one behavior must be selected to complete the session.
Note
Selecting a behavior concludes every event of that behavior on the task
at
once, not only the event on screen. The Behavior(s) Left to Coach count
above the thumbnail strip tracks what is still outstanding.
Step 5: Add Notes
- To record something about one event, select that event first and write in Event Note.
- To record something about the conversation as a whole, write in Session Notes .
Both fields save when you complete the session. Notes are visible to other users with access to the module and are included in the Coaching History library and its CSV download. The percentage of your sessions that include notes is reported as With Notes on the Coaches Report.
Step 6: Select an Action Plan
Select the option that matches the follow-up you are applying. An Action Plan is required. For the options available and what they mean, read the article Action Plan Settings.
Step 7: Complete the Session
The bar at the bottom of the page shows what is still required. Click Complete Coaching Session once at least one behavior is selected and an Action Plan is chosen.
The task closes and leaves the queue, the events covered are set to Coached, and the session appears in Library > Coaching History, on the driver profile, and in the Coaches Report.
Warning
Completing a session closes the task and cannot be undone.
Note
Completing a session does not change how the coached events affect the driver's Safety Score. The score reflects the driving behavior that was recorded.
